Why use edge roll? Edge roll is stapled to the edges of wooden frames to protect the padding and fabric from rubbing. It gives is a smooth, clean edge especially when using foams. Its often found on the fronts of seats, or around scrolled arms. 

Attaching edge roll: Use a stapler to secure edge roll. There is usually a small gap between the end of the edge roll and any post. Position the flange (the flat part of the edge roll)  towards the center of the chair, lining the front along the edge. Staple the flange into place. Next staple the front of the edge roll onto the frame by firmly pressing it down.  When fitting your foam on top, it may help to taper the underside of the foam, the part that sits on the edge, to create a smooth transition.
