How do I install decorative spots & studs?
Use a sharp blade or awl to create small slits where the prongs will go. Insert the prongs through the slits, then bend them inward using pliers or a setting tool to secure the spot firmly. Check out our instruction guide.
Are decorative spots reusable?
Not usually. Once the prongs are bent and pressed into place, they can weaken if removed and reinstalled. It’s best to use new spots for each project.
Do decorative spots work on soft leather?
Yes, but softer leather may not hold them as securely as firmer leather, and might be too heavy. If using, reinforce the area with a backing piece to prevent the prongs from pulling through.
How do I prevent the prongs from scratching the inside of my project?
After bending the prongs, cover them with a thin layer of leather, using leather adhesive, or hide inside a fabric lining.
Can spots be used to attach two pieces of leather together, like rivets?
Yes, decorative spots can hold two pieces of leather together (subject to thickness), but they are not strong like rivets. The prongs may loosen over time, especially under stress. If you want a more secure hold, consider using rivets, or glue/stitch the two pieces of leather alongside the spots for reinforcement.
